Functional Ability Evaluation
Functional ability evaluation testing at Prime Health Care
Objective evaluation of a claimant’s physical work capacity using standardised protocols (Isernhagen / BTE-aligned). For WSIB return-to-work, LTD case management, and SABS treatment planning.
What we measure
- Material handling: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling
- Postural tolerance: sitting, standing, walking, stair climb, crouch, kneel
- Positional and reach tolerance: forward reach, overhead reach, work-position rotation
- Hand and grip strength
- Fingering, handling and bimanual dexterity
- Cardiovascular work tolerance
- Effort consistency, validity and self-limiting behaviours
Format
A two-day FAE protocol (4 hours each day) yields the most defensible result. A one-day abbreviated FAE is available for less complex files.
You receive: a job-demand-matched summary, work-tolerance graph, recommendations for accommodation, and a clear yes / no / partial / graduated return-to-work opinion.
When an FAE is the right tool
- WSIB case manager needs an objective measure of work capacity
- LTD insurer needs evidence to support continued benefits or return-to-work planning
- OCF-18 or treatment-need rebuttal requires an objective functional baseline
- Pre-trial documentation of functional loss for litigation
Frequently asked questions
How long does the patient need to be in clinic?
Two half-days (4 hours each) for the standard protocol; one day for abbreviated.
Do you do job-match FAEs?
Yes. We use the National Occupational Classification (NOC) and the actual job-demand description if you provide it.
